Tips to Jump Starting a Car

Jumping starting a car with another car is a process that’s been around probably as long as cars have been around. Although it gets you and your car going quickly, it’s good to remember that the car and/or battery need to be serviced. Stop at Champion Ford Edinboro and let one of our techs check it over and see what the problem may be.

Jumping a car with another involves the following:

  • Bring both cars close together front to front. Shut both cars off.
  • Identify the positive and negative terminals on both batteries. Positive is usually the wider one.
  • Make sure to not allow the metal parts of the jumper cables to touch each other.
  • Attach one end of the positive jumper clamp to the positive terminal on the dead battery.
  • Attach the other positive cable to the positive terminal on the good battery.
  • Attach one end of the negative jumper clamp to the negative terminal on the good battery.
  • Attach other end of the negative jumper clamp to some metal part of the engine but away from moving parts.
  • Start the good car and let run for a couple minutes.
  • Start the dead, and let it run for a while after it starts.

If it won’t start, the car may need servicing. Call for an appointment or stop at our Edinboro service center today. We are equipped to take care of all your automotive needs.
